FIC: The Exception to the Rule

ExceptionToTheRule01

Title: The Exception to the Rule
Author: Gaby
Pairing: mostly gen with hints of Peter/El/Neal
Characters: Peter, El, Neal, Diana, Jones, June, Mozzie
Warning: This is a slave AU fic, which brings the usual warnings for, well, slave fics just to be on the safe side, even though Neal is treated lovingly throughout the fic.
Spoilers: The Dutchman case is mentioned, so spoilers for the pilot. There are a couple of other teensy tidbits mentioned that aren’t spoilery but are hopefully a respectful nod at the wonderful details Jeff Eastin et al add to the characters.
Rating: R
Genre: slave AU
Author's Notes: Written for the [livejournal.com profile] whitecollar_bb 2013!
Beta and Artist Extraordinaire: [livejournal.com profile] kaylashay, who is made of Awesomecake with ZOMG-Icing. Not only did she beta this monster with, like, 24 hours to spare, she also created beautiful art! And all of that with her posting date being right before mine! You’re my hero, Kayla, thank you so very much!!! I tweaked and added bits here and there, so any remaining mistakes are mine and mine alone.
Word Count: 40,000 exactly! Yes, I tweaked until I managed to hit that number! LOL!
Disclaimer: Not mine, never were, never will be, gosh darn it!
Summary: In a world where the latest fad is owning a show slave, Peter is trying to decide if this would be the perfect birthday present for his wife. Unfortunately, show slaves are bred to look pretty, not to have brains, which is something neither he nor El would be able to enjoy. But then he comes across Neal, a show slave with the raw talent of a real artist, and Peter realizes that there’s obviously an exception to every rule.
