I think it's time, guys. Time to move this community over to Dreamwidth and mirror back here. It's going to take some time and effort and it's going to basically mean that everyone will need to post on Dreamwidth.

When the change happens, the posts on LJ will be locked for comment, requiring members to post and comment on DW directly instead of posting here and making the mods import back to DW. That's the only way moving the community will work. It doesn't mean you'll have to get a DW account - they allow OpenID posting. But keeping the LJ account "live" will mean that no one will ever really migrate.

Whenever Round 8 begins, it will happen on DW only, but notifications will be crossposted here to LJ.

I don't see the point of forcing people to migrate. DW limits my ability to get email updates. If at some point you close the LJ blog, I will not be able to follow this community.

If you don't close it, then why prevent people from commenting here?

Have you read the new terms of service?

Basically LJ is enforcing Russian law on all users now. Journals with unacceptable content will be closed/deleted. And there is a lot of unacceptable content in this community.

I've never had a problem with getting email updates from DW - and I really like their ability to reply to comments directly with an email, not in a reply screen.

So now I really don't see the problem. If you believe LJ will close down this blog anyway, then there's really no reason to force people to migrate, the Russian government will do it for you.

I'm just pointing out a fact - DW limits my notifications more than LJ does, and that means I'll have to limit the communities I'm following.

I use both so it's not a huge deal... I've seen various things about the fact that Russian law is going to be followed and some people are worried about the potential for fines if laws aren't followed. I'm not sure if that is a possible issue but I'd rather be safe than have to fight the Russian court system about a fine. I've learned that you need to cover your ass. I'll follow the community when it gets set up. I wish that it was a little more concise as the wording is such that no one really reads those things.

Does anyone have a link to a clear look at the new terms that explains the implications in words of one syllable? They came up on my phone in tiny type when i signed in on there and although i searched for what i thought would be relevant words, I'm not totally sure I understood it all properly.

You can read it here. I've not seen any posts that I would trust that explain it in concise terms.

Thank you! I've read the whole thing but it's going over my head a bit in my current state! Is there a bit that i should be focusing on that's upsetting people? I see it says we have to mark "adult" content, but that's always been a condition. And there's a weird clause about if more than 3000 ppl are reading your blog, but i cant imagine that applies to us!

ETA: ah ok, have found the "users must not perform any other actions contradictory to the laws of the Russian Federation" bit - hidden in the subsection of a subsection!

Glad i have a DW account, now i just have to figure out how to use it!

There's a couple of things that worried me: 1. They can now update the TOS at any time without notifying anyone. and 2. It sounded like they could take any part of our posts (locked or not) and use them in other parts of the site (or possibly in ads? I'm less clear about that but that's where my mind jumped). Others reminded me that they have always had the ability to take posts and put them in their Top 10 or whatever, but still, it weirds me out.

DW is pretty easy as far as I can see, but I haven't spent much time there. You can have your LJ imported into DW very, very easily, if you haven't already. If you need instructions, let me know.
