Poll - Round Eight on the Horizon

I can't believe it, but Round Eight of the White Collar Big Bang is on the horizon. If we with stick with the traditional April 1 start date, it's just a month away.

When there was always new canon on the horizon, there were a lot of fanwork creators who supported a rich community of challenges. But as time goes by, people become less interested or find new fandoms. That is simply the reality we live in. I currently mod three major White Collar Challenges: The [livejournal.com profile] whitecollar_bb, [livejournal.com profile] wc_reverse_bb, and the [livejournal.com profile] wcpairings exchange. In 2016, the Reverse Bang was put on hiatus and a lot of people had fun with the White Collar Pairings. There were just enough participants for the Big Bang and I have high hopes that the two writers who didn't finish their stories (for understandable reasons) will do so soon.

This poll is to gauge the interest of the fandom in which challenges should go on this year. I'm reluctant to put the granddaddy - the Big Bang - on hiatus, but if more people are interested in the Reverse Big Bang, I would do that. White Collar Pairings would be a supplement to either one of those challenges, not a replacement.

[Poll #2063840]

Please feel free to make suggestions, comments, words of encouragement in the conments.

A Thank You

I just wanted to thank everyone that participaed in the challenge: authors, artistis, betas, and the people who just came to read. It has been an honor to run this big bang with [livejournal.com profile] sirwynai and we want it to succeed. Therefore, we are leaving it in the wise hands of [livejournal.com profile] elrhiarhodan and [livejournal.com profile] theatregirl7299.

Just so everyone knows, there will be a round 5 next April. [livejournal.com profile] elrhiarhodan will be posting the master list when she has a chance. Again, thank you everyone as you have made this challenge the wonderful place it has come to be. We started out shaky, but we came around. So I thank you for that.

Well, see you on the flip side. :)

Posting is Open!

Please remember to post on your date. if something happens and you cannot post on your date for whatever reason, you will have to wait until the end of the challenge to post.

Either myself or my co-mod will be adding tags for you on your posts. So don't worry if you can't tag, we will be taking care of it. :)

Happy posting!

Now, let's go through it.

Title: Self explanatory.
Crossover Fandom: Only if you have one. :) If you do not, just erase it from the header.
Characters/Pairings: Your primary characters and/or pairing, secondary pairing - feel free to put characters here if you have a gen fic.
Rating: Use the rating system you are most comfortable with.
Word Count: Again, self explanatory. :D
Spoilers: Due to having people from all over and being in all different places in the fandom, please just say "Spoilers for current season" or "Spoilers for season 3" or something of the like.
Warnings: Please please please use this. if you think you need to put in a warning, please do so. Better to have one than not have one. Do Note - Slash is not a warning and should not be used. If you have a slash warning, I will comment for you to take it down and you will have 48 hours to do so before I take down your fic. You will then repost it at the end of the round - no exceptions.
Summary: Quick sentence or three about your fic.
Author's Note: Please put the following sentence or some variation of it - I do not own White Collar or its characters. If you have a crossover fandom, put that in as well. This is just so we don't get anybody legal on our butt. Thank your betas and anybody else you need or want to.

Art: Either below or above your fic but it needs to be in the same post with a link to the art post if there is one. If your artist has not gotten your art to you by the time you post, please put TBP (to be posted).

Do not worry about tagging - the mods will take care of that as the stories go up.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I will open up for posting around midnight CDT. Happy posting everyone!

Final Drafts Are Due!

Hello authors!

Your final drafts are due into whitecollar.bb.mods@gmail.com as soon as possible. They do not have to be beta-ed. They don't even have to be completely finished. They do need to be over 10K and attached to the email instead of in the body of the email. Your subject should look like this: username - final draft - title of fic.

You will get an email saying we've got your draft in. It might not be five minutes after you've sent it or...well, give me at least a day and then poke me if you don't get a reply.

This would have been up sooner but there was Whovian going ons. Apologies for that.

MOST IMPORTANT: You have until September 4th at midnight to get your final drafts in. I'm giving more time because I was late getting this up. Around the 5th, I'll post the header and coding and how you should post everything.

Good luck everyone! And congrats to everyone - you are all amazing!

The Select the Date You Want to Post Post

Hi everyone!

So, it is the 15th of August. Some house cleaning first.

Artists: While today is scheduled as the last day to drop out, either though a comment on this post or through email / PM, you can still drop out at any time if you need to. If you need to drop out after today, you need to contact us ASAP. Either through email at whitecollar.bb.mods@gmail.com or by PMing either myself or [livejournal.com profile] sirwynai. Nobody is going to get in trouble. We'd just like to know so we could sound the horn for a pinch artist.

Authors: You have 17 days to get in your final draft (September 1st). We ask that, when sending in your final draft, to put in the subject line: User name - Final Draft - Title of Draft. So, my subject, for example, would read: crescent_gaia - Final Draft - Notes and Murder. You don't have to send in any sort of header for it. We just want to make sure that everyone is ready for posting their story. Also, it doesn't have to be finished finished - if you still need to beta it, that's fine. It really is more so we can make sure that everyone is on track.

Alright, let's get to the dates. It is first come, first serve. We want to have only one person a day posting. If you cannot post on any of the dates, give us a poke and we'll see what we can do.

Mod Note

Hello everyone.

So, as you might have noticed, myself and [livejournal.com profile] sirwynai aren't really around a lot at the moment. It turns out that this July was a very busy month for both of us. We apologize for any sort of trouble this might have caused and we thank those who contacted their artists on their own. All of the emails for artist claims - save for the newest ones on the second round claiming post - have been sent out. If you do not hear from your author or artist within a week, please give us a poke either here or through email.

The second thing is that Tatra and I have decided that we can no longer run this community after the current round. We are looking for a new mod (or two) who are willing to take over for us. We would transfer ownership of the community to that person, along with the email address account, so nothing would change for the participants. If you're willing to do that, please leave a comment. All comments for the moderation will be kept screened and Tatra and I will make a decision by the end of the round.

We really don't want to see the community end. On that note, we will keep looking until April 1st, 2014. If a mod cannot be found by that time, we will be closing the community. It's been a lot of fun, but at the same time, we just cannot keep up anymore. We've had a wonderful time being your mods and we thank each and everyone - past and present - who have contributed to this community.

Thank you for your time.

Second Round of Artist Claims

We've still got unclaimed fics! Please, if you can take on a second claim or knows someone who wants to do some art, please pass this on.

Thank you!

A few notes before we start:
1. This is first come, first serve. If all fics are claimed, I'll consider opening up claims again or just putting everything in with the art selection post that is coming up on August 1st.

2. Please be kind to your mods and the author that you are paired up with.

3. You have until September 1st to create art. If at any time you need to drop out, you need to contact us at whitecollar.bb.mods@gmail.com. Or your author needs to know and then your author needs to tell us. This is just so we can get a pinch hitter in the works. You won't send any ninjas after you, because RL is a bitch and your mods know that first hand, but we need to know.

Alright, that's it. Any questions, reply here.

Summaries )

Rough Drafts Due TODAY!

Yep, that's right. Today by 8 pm Central US Time, you need to have your rough drafts into us. The artist claiming post is going up at 9 pm Central unless Livejournal decides to be a bitch. So writers do have that narrow window over the deadline, but don't leave it for too long.

Guidelines on how to submit your draft are here! Also, please make sure that your drafts are in some sort of word document. I'm not going to be opening anything other than a word document, open word document, or notepad file.

Do remember - if you cannot get your rough draft in by 8 pm tonight, you then have until August 1st to submit a rough draft. While we will be putting up an artist claim post for that, I cannot say that you will get an artist if you submit on August 1st.

Happy writing everyone!

Reminder!

1. Rough Drafts Due by July 16th at 8 pm Central Daylight Time. Here is a time zone converter in case you're not sure about what time that is in your part of the world.

The guidelines on how to submit your draft are over here. Please comment either here or there if you have any questions. You need to have around 7K and you do not need to outline the rest. That is between you and your artist.

2. If you cannot get your rough draft in by the deadline, you do have another chance to turn in a rough draft on August 1st. We cannot say that you will get an artist or not.

3. If you know any artists who love White Collar, please send them our way! They can sign up over here or just show up on claiming day and grab a fic.

4. We have a beta post! Feel free to spread it around too.

Beta Sign Ups!

Hi all!

We're looking for betas (no, not that kind, we're not Supernatural) who are willing to help out an author. Here's the form to sign up:

The last one is to make sure that our betas don't get overwhelmed. :) Have fun!

13 Days Until Rough Drafts Are Due!!!

Hi everyone!

I hope everyone has been having fun writing. We've been quiet, dealing with real life issues, a puppy (me), and writing our own things. I'm glad to see that nobody really needed us and hoped that nobody minded that we were quiet. We feel, here at [livejournal.com profile] whitecollar_bb, that everyone feels better with just writing on their own and not being poked every month. :)

However, rough draft time is upon us! You have until whenever the art claims post goes up - should be the 15th but might be the 16th around 8 pm Central Time - to get your drafts in. If we do not have a rough draft with a header from you, I cannot say that you will get an artist. You can still do the challenge, but there's a good chance you're not getting art unless you do the art yourself or get a friend to do it. So, until the art post goes up on the 15th/16th, all drafts will be put into the art claims post for artists. After that, you have until August 1st to get a rough draft in and still be considered in the challenge. You just will not receive art. This way, we get as many stories as possible. If you still need an extension beyond that, please contact us at whitecollar.bb.mods@gmail.com and we'll see what we can do.

Another thing about rough drafts - you must have at least 7K of written work with an outline your artist can work with until you get them a complete draft. If you have a full and complete draft of work, that's awesome. But if you're struggling and below the 7K, email us and we'll see if we can work something out. Again, it's more about getting as many stories as we can in and having a giant party in September about the awesome work everyone has done.

Now - how to send the rough draft in. You will send it in to whitecollar.bb.mods@gmail.com. You will get a confirmation email back that your draft was received. Your draft must be attached to the email or the draft needs to be sent from Google Docs so we can check word counts and that you're ready to have an artist go at your work (okay, more for word count checking than anything else). Please make sure it is the complete draft and not the individual chapters. That just makes our lives easier. :)

In the subject of the email, you must have the following: Rough Draft - User Name - Title of Fic So, for example, the subject of my email would be "Rough Draft - crescent_gaia - Notes and Murder".

In the body of the email, this is what you need to have:
Title (Please note working or final):
Crossover (Y/N and Fandom):
Characters/Pairings:
Rating:
Any Warnings (this includes anything someone would be squicked by and spoilers):
Short Summary:

So, for mine, it would be:
Title (Final): Notes and Murder
Crossover: Castle
Characters/Pairings: Peter/El, Neal/Sara, Neal/Alex, Beckett/Castle
Rating: PG-13
Any Warnings: Spoilers for all of shown White Collar, save for season 4 finale, and all of Castle, save for season 4 finale.
Short Summary: When someone turns up dead with Peter's card in their pocket, two amazing forces come together to find the murderer.

Simple, to the point, and that will make it a lot easier on us when we put up the art claims post. So, if you have any questions, please leave a comment or poke us at the email address that has been shown at least twice in the post.

Happy writing!

Author Sign Ups for Round 4

And we're back! It is the first of April and this is no joke - we're opening the sign ups for authors who want to write 10,000 words of a fanfiction centered around the greatness that is White Collar. A few points of business before getting to the sign ups. If this sounds similar to last year, that's because it is. :)

Here is the schedule:
Author Sign Ups Begin: April 1st - Sorry we're a few days late.
Artist Sign Ups Begin: May 1st
Author Drop Out Date: July 10th
Author Sign Ups End: July 15th
Fic Rough Draft Due Date: July 15th
Artists Pick Fic: July 16th
Artists Sign Ups End: August 15th
Final Fic/Art Due: September 1st
Posting Starts: September 7th

Rules for Authors:
1. Fics must be at least 10,000 words or longer of gen, het, or slash fanfiction. At this time, we are not considering RPF or RPS. If you feel we should, please contact us at whitecollar.bb.mods@gmail.com
2. The story must be centered around White Collar characters but don't feel like you have to use all of them. So this means Peter, Neal, Elizabeth, Mozzie, Kate, June, Agent Jones, Agent Cruz, Special Agent in Charge Reese Hughes (Peter's boss), Fowler, and Alex or anybody else who is central to the White Collar cast. Have fun with these characters. Crossovers are allowed but please make sure it centers around White Collar. For example per the season finale of season 1, you could crossover White Collar and In Plain Sight (show about Witness Protection on USA), but the focus should be on Neal.
3. There will be check in posts. Please try to remember to post to them, but if you miss them, don't sweat it. We're just check in to see what everyone needs within reason. I am not getting everyone their own Neal. You're on your own for that. -- These may or may not happen, depending on if we remember to post them. :)
4. Your Rough Draft is due on July 15th. This is when we are closing sign ups. There will be an official author drop out post on July 10th. If you need to drop out at any time, email us at whitecollar.bb.mods@gmail.com or leave a comment somewhere.
5. Fics as part of a series are allowed as long as they are stand alone fics. That means they can stand on their own merit and the reader doesn't have to read a previous fic in order to understand what you're writing.
6. You are not allowed to post your fic publicly either in whole or part before your posting date. Posting starts on the 7th of September - please wait until then.

We do ask that you join our sister vent community, [livejournal.com profile] wcbbvent to talk about the challenge, get help, vent or whatever else that you need.

If there are any other questions, please look to the Frequently Asked Questions. If your question is still not answered, please drop us a line either at the FAQ post or feel free to PM/email us.

Ready - Set - GO!

Posting Issues Should Be Fixed

I believe I fixed the problem. If I haven't and you cannot post, either leave me a message here or email. If it is between the hours of 2 am and 10 am CDT, I might not respond because I'm usually asleep. :D

Happy posting everyone!

Posting is Open

Please remember to post on your date. if something happens and you cannot post on your date for whatever reason, you will have to wait until the end of the challenge to post.

Happy posting everyone!

ETA: Forgot to mention this - Either myself or my co-mod will be adding tags for you on your posts. So don't worry if you can't tag, we will be taking care of it. :)

Mod Note - a Public Service Annoucement about Warnings

I just wanted to repeat something I just put up in the schedule/header post. I realize that all might not see it and should be given a heads up before they go to post.

The thing is that some people have been using the idea of warnings wrong. If you have graphic sex, that deserves a warning because some people won't want to read that. Same goes with the more trigger worthy things out there.

However - Slash is not a warning and should not be used. If you have a slash warning, I will comment for you to take it down and you will have 48 hours to do so before I take down your fic. You will then repost it at the end of the round - no exceptions.

If you have any questions, feel free to leave them here. Love all of you and I cannot wait for the start of posting to begin tomorrow!

The Posting Schedule and the Header
